Bernie Sanders Leads Polling for TIME’s Person Of The Year

Since 1927, TIME Magazine has named a person (or object, or idea) of the year, an award which recognizes the impact the subject has had on the world, “for better or for worse…has done the most to influence the events of the year.” This year, polling indicates that Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is leading the race for the prestigious honor, scooping up a pretty 11.2% of the vote with two weeks left to choose – more than double the runner-up, activist Malala Yousafzai, who is followed by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pope Francis and our very own President Obama. Trump did not make the top ten, which prompted a round of complaints from the touchy Republican front-runner and burgeoning fascist rabble-rouser.

Bernie Sanders has been making history with his presidential campaign, uniting Americans across the country with a progressive campaign focused on healing the middle class and reining in the power of the ultra-wealthy. He has remained devoted to his vision of democratic socialism and a better tomorrow for the American people with a laserlike focus, focusing on income inequality, raising the minimum wage, providing free healthcare and education, and ending the mass incarceration crisis. He is a worthy candidate for the award, and we wish him the best of luck in the final two weeks. The editors at TIME make the final decision, but they do take the public’s blessing into account.

You can vote for Bernie, or the racehorse American Pharaoh, or whoever you wish for the Person/Animal/Object/Idea of the Year here.
