If there’s one thing anti-feminists and men’s rights activists love it’s trying to mansplain what they think feminism is all about. Somewhere in their theories are assumptions that men are somehow going to be less than women if we have true equality. Somehow men’s rights are at risk if women have equal rights. Somehow anti-feminists believe that someone’s manhood is on the line if a woman is acknowledged as being equal.
We understand that none of these things are true. Equality is simply that – being equal. Men are not worth less and women are not worth more. We all bring unique experiences and talents and should value all of them. Men and women should all stand shoulder to shoulder in the strive for equality and these women below understand that.
1. “I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute.” – Rebecca West
8. “Feminism is not a dirty word. It does not mean you hate men, it does not mean you hate girls that have nice legs and a tan, and it does not mean you are a bitch or a dyke. It means you believe in equality.” ― Kate Nash
9. “I call myself a feminist when people ask me if I am, and of course I am ’cause it’s about equality, so I hope everyone is. You know you’re working in a patriarchal society when the word feminist has a weird connotation.” – Ellen Page
