United Airlines Wouldn’t Protect 15-Year-Old Girl From Old Man Who Felt Her Up

No one likes to be on a plane for 20+ hours, but now young women must be cautious flying. Not because of terrorism, but from creepy old men who might feel you up without your consent.

Chelsea Schiffel, a 15-year-old Australian girl was flying from LA to Sydney and claimed she was groped by an older man. What did the airline say? According to News9, United shrugged it off because Chelsea was wearing short shorts. That doesn’t mean that anyone, especially a 15-year-old, should be touched inappropriately by anyone.

Chelsea alleged that the older man touched her breasts twice before she told her mother. She complained to the crew and requested a different seat but the airline did nothing and asked them to return to their seats.

“Chelsea repeatedly moved in and out of her seat, crawling over the other customer who was attempting to sleep, and that your daughter wore extremely short shorts,” the airline said in a letter as if United believes that justifies being groped.

A letter from United claimed that her choice in clothing might have been to blame. The family tried to press charges but with no proof of the incident, it became hard to file a suit against the airline.

This a disgraceful blemish on the face of United Airlines, but a young woman is the one disgraced Women again suffer two steps backward every time something like this happens. Can’t we as a group do something to effect the bottomline of these large companies who just dismiss us without consideration? I’m starting individually; we can all do that. I don’t fly much, but I’ll never use United again! We must all support each other as we can until something is organized nationwide, and/or worldwide to force large entities to hear and respect us all equally! I hope Chelsea knows that a world community of women are with her in support and strength!

Way to revictimize the victim and join Rape Culture…Horrible. I hope no one ever flies with you again. Absolutely disgusting! Blame a kid for an adult’s molestation. I am repulsed!

Why didn’t her mother change seats with her?

Mary, even then she’d be in the same row as a man who tried to grope her and now her mother is forced to sit next to someone who touched her daughter. If her and her mother were in the same row she’d likely still have to pass by this guy to get to the restroom. When she turned to talk to her mother there’s the guy who was just feeling her up sitting right there next to her. The guy who touched a 15yr old should have been forced to move.

victim blaming, what a surprise. Men just can’t be trusted to keep their hands to themselves, so lets make it all the woman/girl’s fault. Make sure she covers her body with a burka, shaves her head and make sure she’s never in the company of men. Let’s teach her to be ashamed of her body, to realize young that she’s just an object for men to derive pleasure from, and please, don’t ever punish a man for sexually assaulting A FREAKING CHILD! What the hell is wrong with you?

As a young girl, I was propositioned many times and groped by a couple of them. It is a silent right-of-passage, it seems. Welcome to womanhood, where your body is up for grabs! This story pains me. I told too, and no one did anything!!!! This girl could have been on the plane with no clothes on and no one should have touched her!!!! When are we going to get over thinking that men are just too weak to resist sexual temptation. I’d like to believe otherwise but……

Why didn’t they charge the man? Or give him a good slap up side the head!

She should have said that he spoke Arabic. They’d have taken care of him in a minute.

So, perhaps her shorts were too short, by some people’s standards, apparently, but what justified the older man to grope her breasts? And, while I’m at it, shame on you UNITED AIRLINES!!!
